Mind Over Matter (FIRST + LAST VERSE)
Syd City's North Shore (Chatswood) has bred a couple of animals tearin' ish like nothing before!! MC's 'Willow' and 'Smiles Again' have had a deep interest in hip hop before they even hit high school. 2003 saw Willow and Smiles combine to form the now Bangin' M.O.M. crew. 2005 saw Mind Over Matter take out the cash prize at the St. Pius 'Battle Of The Bands' annual competition. They were entered as the underdog/wildcards as it predominantly was a rock comp!! Whut Whut suckers hahaa!! The energy of Mind Over Matter's powerful, live set was felt at 'Back 2 Basic's', a night held weekly at the Lansdowne. This was to be the last night of B2B at the Lansdowne, it went out with more than a bang!! After this, the boys persisted to grow within the scene by rocking many stages, festivals, venues, and supporting some of Australia’s most respected artists including: Bliss N’ Eso’s on the NSW leg of their massively successful 'Get Loose Tour', Muph n Plutonic, Infallible, Kick Up The Dust (Manning Bar Sydney Uni), Groove Urban Festival (Olympic Park), Nurcha Records shows and Purebred shows to name a few. The crew have been interviewed and featured on both television and radio including 94.5 FBI's Stolen Records hip hop show and Triple J's 105.7 "The Hip hop Show" hosted by Maya Jupiter, 93.7’s Black Label Show, Fish Bowl T.V, Hip Hop T.V. Australia and H Bloc T.V. The M.O.M. Crew then decided to go international (haha), travelling to Osaka, Japan..where they recorded a video clip for 'How We Get Down' amongst rocking the odd stage in Osaka's down town district!! After months of "Blood Sweat & F**k Yeah" the Mind Over Matter Mixtape, "For Our Hip Hoppers" has been released!! Consisting of known, original and royalty free beats, the boys of Mind Over Matter bring an intricate, hype, and bangin' mixtape that is second to none!! The mixtape was recorded at Fame's, one of Sydney's leading producers and member of Overproof. It feature's Sydney/Japan MC Shifty and Saving Grace's Amelia.. All in all a must have and you can download/stream it for ***FREE*** simply by clicking on the picture below!! Mind Over Matter are currently working their skinny ass’s off on their debut LP that will be out through their label, Nurcha Records and we promise that more is on the way so keep your heads up, eyes, ears, and minds wide open!! CONTACT/WEBSITE Phatchance (HOOK)
In every genre there are a few independent artists who strive to achieve success and recognition, whilst mainting to an absolute degree the integrity and individuality of their music, this is my complete objective in creating my content. I try to make the best music I can, and while hip-hop is my passion and the tool I use to do so, my love and interest for music extends past any single genre. I began writing rhymes and making music in the early years of highschool, and in 2004 after establishing a name as a battle MC formed a band called Natural Causes (www.myspace.com/naturalcausescrew) with two close friends that shared the same interests. In the following years we hooked up with Sydney Dj, Dj Illa & toured extensively both locally and interstate, gaining recognition for our thought provoking, energetic and fun live show. During this period we supported prominent Australian hip-hop artists such as Hyjak and Torcha, Milk Bar Stars (Pegz, Muph n Plutonic, DJ Bonez), Andy Strushka, Maya Jupiter, The Winnie Coopers, Hospice Crew, Def Wish Cast, Fame & 13th Son, Swarmy G, Binge Thinkers, The Funkoars and many more. Natural Causes also became the flagship crew for Sydney independent record label Nurcha Records (www.nurcharecords.com) and commenced work on our debut release. In 2006 we featured on a number of releases, the most notable of which is Dave V's album "V" (Nurcha Records, circa Obese Records 2006), on which our track 'When Gravity Calls" recieved considerable praise and airplay. In 2006 Natural Causes realised that internal obligations and commitments were going to force a temporary hiatus from recording and performance duties, and thus I decided to start work on my solo EP "The Stigmata", a criticism of the commercialisation of the music industry, and human nature, using religion and mythology as a focal metaphor. I began to tour locally and interstate supporting artists such as Bliss n Eso, Phrase & DJ Flagrant, The Winnie Coopers, Hyjak, 3to2, DJ Master, DJ Bacon, Infallible, Litigate (Fizard), Bukkcity & Anecdote inorder to promote and develop the album, and in July finished pre production of the EP. I decided to push the CD through Natural Causes label, Nurcha Records, and began hitting our studio in September for recording. Keep an ear out in the coming months for snippets and promotionals from the EP, and for news and updates in terms of shows, appearances and developments. Click below for a sneak preview track! HIGHER - MOVE.MEANT
Although challenging at times due to label drama and everyday struggles, 2006 was a big year for Champ, JustBeats, and DJ Spider, collectively known as Move.meant. They watched Crash (which featured two of their songs) win an Oscar for Best Film, and they won an award themselves, taking the Urban category at the Diesel-U-Music Awards in London. Spider blew up on the club scene, touring with Mark Ronson and DJ AM and landed residencies and gigs at some of the most high profile venues and A-List parties. So, in spite of dealing with industry nonsense, the timing couldn’t be better to release their first full length album, The Scope Of Things. CLICK HERE FOR HHS EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH MOVE.MEANT [VIDEO] HIGHER ESCAPE FROM THE CITY - HYJAK N TORCHA
Hyjak exploded onto the scene in 98 as a 15 year old who snuck into his local Bondi pub to enter his first mc battle stunning the crowd with his witty freestyles. Yes he left the battle victorious and an urban legend amongst his peers. Six years later we see a mature songwriter and storyteller with the same happy go lucky attitude and witty freestyles.“Couldn’t afford a video clip so I rap on surveillance camera footage” sums up the humorous and honest style. Torcha also has a rich history in Australian hip hop as an original member of Sydney’s “eth-nik tribe”. Torcha is a realist with untamed battle lyrics and great story telling ability. The older of the two MCs, Torcha brings well-planned concepts and conscious balance to the group. This albums conception was inspired by the return of Torcha from a two-year hiatus of focusing on his marriage and work. “Trapped in cycle where you mind is your worst enemy” authenicates the truthful lyrics Torcha is revered for. {VIDEO} Night With Chopper STATE OF AFFAIRS - SCOTT BURKE
This isn't a get rich quick scheme or an attempt to herd a flock of followers. This is for the misguided, misled and misunderstood. This is for everyone that's ever been told no. A dedication of sorts to those people who struggle everyday to stand proud. While integrity is synonymous with sales and popularity in mainstream music today, Scott Burke strives to produce quality music which is still genuine. A hip hop artist since the tender age of fourteen, Scott has been recording and writing music for around four years. After being faced with the stress of school, work, love and friends he turned to the pen as a way to avoid 'blowing his gasket'. Scott has performed with a number of Australia's leading musicians, namely Def Wish Cast, Hyjak N Torcha, Bingethinkers, Mind Over Matter and Natural Causes. He joined the Nurcha Records team, (www.nurcharecords.com), in late 2005 and parted ways again in mid 2006 to independant record label Unda K9 (www.figgkidd.com). Future prospects for Scott include working on a promotional cd which will be avaliable for no cost at most local music stores, on the internet and schools and parties. BRING IT ON - JUSTICE AND KAOS
{VIDEO} OFFICIAL F.O.B MIXTAPE LAUNCH Since first appearing on the local scene, many have forecasted promising things for Hip Hop duo Justice & Kaos, formerly known as Third World Militia. Landing a record deal through Solid State Recordings/Warner Music, however, was something they could never have imagined would happen so soon. After a handful of appearances on widely acclaimed releases such as DJ Nino Brown and DJ Samrai’s Blazin 5 compilation, 2005’s Nuffsaid compilation In Case You Didn’t Know and Weapon X & Ken Hell’s Scarnon mixtape series, Justice & Kaos are ready to launch head-first into the Australian music industry amidst an interesting climate for local Hip Hop. Known to put on a fast-paced, energetic stage show alongside live DJ Simon Sez, the duo have attracted a buzz amongst the Australian hiphop fraternity, landing support gigs for international artists such as Mobb Deep, Lloyd Banks, Atmosphere and Brother Ali. Late 2006 saw the arrival of the Fresh Off the Boat (F.O.B.) mixtape, a collaborative effort with GMC, Anonymous and DJ Simon Sez gaining mainstream recognition and spurring an east coast tour. With the release of their debut EP, Turn It On, out in early June 2007 on Solid State Recordings/Warner Music, things are looking promising for Justice & Kaos. Looking to capitalize on recent successes and harboured talent, the duo is hoping to make inroads into territory not many local artists have ventured into. KOLAPS
The kolapser is originally from South Birmingham, England and migrated to Adelaide, Australia April 1992. CONTACT/WEBSITE: Red Light - Drake MC
Drake originated as a solo artist, spending a lot of his time as a youth attempting to create music. Seven years of work allowed him to fine tune the art of production and writing to make him what he is today. September of 2005 Drake and fellow emcee fRiTs joined forces to create Homebrand, a group that existed around the basis of low funds and a cheap life. Later in the year, DJ Denno joined the team, forming the trio as it is known today. There are many members of the Homebrand Crew, but Drake, fRiTs and DJ Denno comprise the musical side of the group. ![]() http://homebrand.2dope.net/mixtape or listen to all 20 tracks at http://www.myspace.com/homebrand. There is something about the rapper known as Hykoo (AKA Lachlan Jones) you cant put your finger on. Trying to pigeonhole his style is near impossible. Think Eminem meets Sage Francis only Australian and drunk. Hykoo somehow blends all the qualities of a great rapper into one mysterious package. Intelligent, witty, deep, dark, satirical and street, Hykoo really is an exciting rapper. In 2003 Hykoo dropped his first release Pigeon Whole Hearted with his crew (Awakenings) through his own label Awakenings Records. Hykoo followed up with Rap Songs Meow in 04 with fellow crew member Osinaka, before featuring more recently on the Chasm E.P. and a barrage of guest appearance including tracks on FBI Presents, Stolen Records and Straight from the Art Vol. 2. Although Hykoo still represents the Awakenings crew, it was time for him to flip the script yet again. Hykoo was to go deep underground to write and record the next chapter in the Hykoo saga. The next installment, His debut L.P. The Crooked Unseen is a culmination of his relentless determination to bring a record of versatility and skills never before heard from an Australian rapper. Produced by two of the hottest talents in the game: Styalz Fuego and Weapon X, Hykoo laces world class beats with the groundbreaking lyricism that is fast earning him accolades from his peers around the world. Hykoo's talents are not limited to recording, with one of the most exciting live shows from a solo hip-hop artist in Australia. He often invites special guests to the stage and ensures no two shows are ever the same. Hykoo has preformed along side many big names including, Atmosphere and Sage Francis. Although it would seem that Hykoo has already had an illustrious career in hip-hop, it is only now that Hykoo has stepped out from the shadows into the limelight and is ready to write the next chapter in the Hykoo story . . . May the saga continue. [VIDEO] Bump COMIN UP - MOTLEY
